HEAL: Beyond the Surface

HEAL: Beyond the Surface is a thought-provoking four-part video interview which delves into the intricate tapestry of Indigenous culture and resilience within the context of a westernized healthcare system. Drawing from her own experiences, Indigenous storyteller Kung Jaadee shares a deeply personal account of her health journey, shedding light on the hardships she has faced navigating a healthcare system shaped largely by colonial and patriarchal influences. During a feast with a friend, she reflects upon her healing journey and emphasizes the enduring power of self-love, underscoring the importance of inner strength and acceptance in overcoming adversity. She reveals moments of vulnerability and strength, providing insight into the resilience that has sustained her through difficult times.

More than a personal narrative, HEAL: Beyond the Surface serves as a profound exploration of Indigenous identity, community health, and the universal spirit of sharing and caring.

Through Kung Jaadee's story, viewers are prompted to consider how current healthcare practices can be improved to be more inclusive of Indigenous peoples and their cultural beliefs and to foster greater understanding and support within the Canadian healthcare system.
